The Barn from the Bedroom Window by Raymond A. Foss
Roll over, snooze hit
Warm covers, cold morn
Morning light
Piercing my slumber

Out the window
Down below
My barn
Steam, melting frost
Rising to me

Spayed roof
Rotten beams
Hold shingles
On rusted nails

Old weathered slats
Elephant skin
Slate Grey, green grey
And darker still
Wet permeated wood

Ancient windows
Bobbled glass
Clouded for years
Cows-eye view of the world

Ivy clinging
Up the wall
Burrowed into the wood
Its tendrils rent
Between the boards
Reaching for
Sunlight over the roofline

The door, a maw
Dirt floor, hard packed
Sweet summer hay
Now winter food,
Bedding, insulation

Storage for farm equipment,
Old forgotten belongings,
Of dead owners
And an occasional animal -
The real owners now
Of the barn from my bedroom window
