After the Baptism by Raymond A. Foss
The instant, the moment, the second
he was baptized, touched by the spirit,
he began, using the gifts, he had all along
the silent years of his life, those without word
those never written down
A second career move, brought by water
by the indwelling of the spirit
landing on him as a dove, bodily
the light weight of it still a weight
the adding of a burden, a mantle, a yoke
calling him to begin his ministry, his work in the world
Ready to use the gifts he was given
as are we, his disciples, his followers,
his brothers and sisters
fellows in his ministry
using our gifts as they are
to spread the good news
to make more disciples

Luke 3:15-22
Inspired by the sermon, “The Jordan is More Than Water”, by The Reverend Peter A. Hey, Wesley United Methodist Church, 1/14/07
and 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
