This Holy Mystery by Raymond A. Foss
a bite of bread, a taste of wine
symbolic joining
hearts and minds, spirits
with the creator,
sacrificially, sacramentally
sharing in the death,
the rising, the saving
of the son

Our bodies nourished,
spirits renewed
reminded of the one
sinless man
put to death
to balance the scales
to right the iniquities,
mine, yours, all of ours
throughout the ages

Taking on the yoke
feeding us,
“Remember me
each time you do this”;
remembering the sacrifice
but also the saving
the blood and the body
becoming part of us
again, each time
we come to his table
