On the Brink by Raymond A. Foss
On the brink, the edge,
the maw of the pit,
the edge of the precipice,
looking down into the abyss
Okay, so maybe we can rationalize away
a bit of the reality that is global warming;
maybe we aren’t all going to be
staring into the maw of disaster;
but we won’t really know
until it is too late, will we
We won’t be able to fix anything,
after the ice is gone
We won’t be able to correct the problem
when the grain belts are deserts
When the monsoons and the waves
flood the coastlines
beyond human recorded history
We can act; but we must do so
while the trend lines are a problem
not after they reach their conclusion
