They Could Not Deny by Raymond A. Foss

Too many witnesses, too many years
the lame made to walk, in his name
the gift they could give, alone
by the name of Christ healed
in the healing believing,
in believing a movement
in the movement
seeds of destruction

But they could not deny
the healing they performed,
the name their raised
the name of Jesus,
the one who rose, the tomb empty
Ordinary men,
changing the rules.
They would not be stilled.
