Godfrey Mutiso Gorry Biography
Back to Poet Page
Godfrey Mutiso Gorry was born in Kisumu, Kenya on 30 June 1976. He undertook his undergraduate studies in Kenyatta University in Nairobi, where he majored in literature and history. He is a poet and playwright.

He is best known for his Monthly contribution of poetry to the Kenyatta University Weekly Magazine between the year 2000 and 2001. Some of his contributions include ‘Tides of Time’ ‘Tears of Hope ’‘A Foreign Tongue’ ‘Rule or Assassinate’ ‘Tomorrow’ ‘The Beggar’ and ’‘Return To Roots My Child’, some of these poems can be found at his poetry blog – Seeking Higher Solitude which he started writing in March 2005. In the same year he submitted various works at www.lulu.com/gorry which includes two collections of poetry (Sentimental Days -A romantic poetry collection filled with East African imagery and The Dead Artist- a collection of poetry that explores the idea of death. It seeks to lighten a grey moment of existence by probing deep into the human soul) and one play (The Sweep- A tragi-comedy satire that dwells on the sociopolitical aspect of governance in Africa).

In his poetry blog http://mutiso.blogspot.com he wishes to popularize poetry, therefore his approach is to compose poems that are easier to read and understand though in no way diminishing its creative content. He also refutes Taban Lo Liyongs’ famous quote that East Africa is a literary desert.

He is currently working as a computer specialist.
